Princess' Path: Setting and Bonus Scene

When I first wrote Why a Witch? I did not expect it to be as popular as it was or to continue it. I was focused on keeping it short and sweet. But given that I have written three in the series (which I have rechristened the Princess' Path), I thought that I should expand on the settings that I neglected in the first story.

I'm pretty sure that most of you thought that this was a medieval fantasy world. Now take that, and fast forward several centuries to the modern day, with cars, movies, and scientists tearing their hair out because they still can't find a scientific explanation for how magic works. Add in the dragons, the griffins, the magic, and you have the setting to the story!

And don't forget to vote for your favorite Blog Story in the poll on the right!

Bonus Scene!

Myriah turned slowly to Otto Lupine. “What did you say?” She asked. “About Caroline?”

“The princess?” Otto shrugged dismissively. “She’s going to die. It’s not really the important part of the plan. You see-” Myriah’s hand shot out and Otto choked on his next words.

“Leave her out of it.” Myriah’s eyes were black with fury. Otto struggled to breath. For the first time Otto realizes that Myriah was on a whole other level than he was. “Do I make myself clear?” Myriah asked coldly. Otto couldn’t do anything but choke. Myriah smiled and somehow that was even more terrifying than the lack of air. “Good.” She released him. Otto fell to his knees, gasping for breath. Otto looked up at Myriah. He was terrified. Myriah reached for him and Otto flinched away, but Myriah just pulled him to his feet and dusted him off.

“Why?” The raspy question slipped out. Otto couldn’t stop it. He held his breath.

“I have plans for her.” Myriah gave his jacket one last pat. “If you get in the way, well…” Myriah’s eyes flicked up. “Werewolf blood is at a premium.” Otto swallowed with difficulty.

“I’ll… change my plans.” Otto said his voice slightly strangled. Myriah smiled normally. It was a smile that hid the fact that she could probably take over the city if she ever got bored or wipe out an entire family if she was ever offended. It was a smile that masked the hate and rage that roiled beneath.

“Good.” Myriah said normally. “Now, you said something about meeting the others at the movies.” She turned. Otto’s legs nearly gave out in relief. He didn’t know what Myriah had planned for the princess. He was just glad that it didn’t involve him.
