Leap Year Update!

2/29/2016

You see the date? It's leap year! I knew I'd have to do something special for it! But in all honesty, it kind of snuck up on me and So I just read you all Danger of Drowning! It's pretty good, and the start of me reading many more of my stories for listening in the car! Look forward to those!
I've really got to get to work on the podcast element of LynZine. A friend of mine told me that he'd love to hear a podcast where I just critique Greek tragedies (you should hear me go off on Electra! If my dad killed my sister I'd have helped my mom kill him!) but I prefer a more story oriented approach, like the ever fabulous Decoder Ring Theatre (If you haven't heard of it, stop reading and start listening to their podcast!). Still, I might do a few entries on Greek Tragedies and where Clytemnestra and Medea got it wrong. Maybe rant about Jason and Agamemnon a little bit.

In other news, I am trying to read through the legal jargon surrounding the copyright of Raffles the Gentleman thief, because I have an updated audio show version of them I would love to do. Alas, copyright and public domain is confusing to say the least.

I got the music for the intro of this reading from MusOpen.

It's not a bad resource, and makes it pretty clear what it wants from it's users.

Alright everyone! Enjoy your leap year!

Star Trek Excelsior Episode Release!

Star Trek: Excelsior has just released the episode I wrote called "A Day at the Park"! There is also a rather big announcement at the beginning! You can download the episode from the site or on iTunes (the Star Trek: Excelsior podcast). I hope that you all enjoy it! It is a big honor that it was produced!

And if you are new to the site, there are several short stories that range between one and two pages called blog stories that range from Fantasy (like the Princess' Path) to Spy Fiction (including Out of the Shadows) as well as many others. I hope you enjoy them!

Also known as the National Novel Writing Month, most commonly known as November.

Writing a novel in a month is tough, but far from impossible. If you want to know what the month feels like? Just check out the video below.
Now, I'm going to participate in my own way. But instead of focusing on a novel I will do my very best to post four of my longer stories in addition to my blog stories. I was going to aim for seven but I think things are about to get pretty crazy and four is still ambitious.

Plus there is a short story contest I would like to prepare for that is the 16th, and I'd rather not have my focus divided. Wish me luck!

And a very Happy (if belated) Halloween!

A few things!

First thing's first.
I have a Twitter! Yes, it surprised me too, but I decided that some people like Facebook, some people like Tumblr, and some people like Twitter. My Twitter name is @LynZineStories (I cannot believe that LynZine was taken. Who knew?) You can also follow me with that little black box to the right. But, if you prefer, here are the links to the Twitter page and the Facebook page.

Alright, social media stuff out of the way! Now on to the <strike>fun</strike> important stuff!

Did everyone like the week of stories? Perhaps it should be a monthly event?
I'm also very excited about a 1930s series I'm working on called "Miss. Magic". I've even started writing and posting articles on Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter as a lead up to the release.

Happy October!

Ah! My absolute favorite month of the year. Happy October everyone! I love this month. It's a time when creativity is encouraged and accepted. I can go out in a cloak without getting as many weird looks! To be fair, I kind of enjoy sticking out, but I love the fact that people accept the mysterious this month without too much of a fuss. So to celebrate this month, starting Saturday I will post a story a day for a week. Wish me luck! It's something I challenged myself to do a few months ago, and that one led to the creation of the Princess' Path series, so with any luck this one will be as fruitful!

Who knows, maybe I'll even be able to do a special audio ep for Halloween. No surprise that I love that holiday. It's a celebration of imagination!

Happy October!

The End of August

Well, here we are; the last day of August.

I actually have recorded a few audio dramas, but I want to do a few more takes. I think you'll enjoy them! This coming month I plan on setting up a podcast on iTunes.

Stories coming in September...

  • The Princess' Path 3-6
  • The Boys in Engineering
  • Tides of Trade (Continuation of Danger of Drowning)
  • Faithful Foe

Audios coming in September...
  • Time To Travel: Age of the Dinosaur (If people like the first scene of this, let me know! I'm prioritizing my audio shows, and I won't continue it if people don't tell me they like it!)
  • The Sword and Scepter Saga: The Rescue
  • Audio Adaptation of Out of this World

Wish me luck!

The Audio Booth and Reading a Blog Story

Well... I finished my sound booth. There were some problems. The difficulty of propping it up is the main one, and that's just because the hinges failed. (I'll try to get bigger hinges.) But, when in doubt, improvise! I fanangled a tiny one person recording booth. And I have two or three other ideas to make up for the problems.

And that's how the irony happened. I went through all of the trouble of building a sound booth, and that is what led me to discover the echo problem was a software issue. Who would have thought software would have reverb as a pre-set? Absurd. Well, I'm still glad I have the sound booth. My room has some weird sound stuff going on.

Sorry about the wait on everything. At the beginning of August I got the Star Trek: Excelsior script for final editing. The script went out to the actors today (incredibly excited!) so I should be posting more regularly again! The stories are piling up, and I'm working on the last three stories of the Princess' Path right now.

For now, I hope that you enjoy this audio version of Living with a Hero.

Would anyone like these to be available as an iTunes podcast? Let me know!

Updates and Long Term Projects

7/29/2015

Welcome everyone,

I've slowed down on the blog stories because I've become very involved in my longer term projects. Never fear, there are more on the way. Including a few of one of my favorite characters Marilyn Gold. Remember to vote for your favorite blog story in the poll on the right. I started back up on the story Pals and Partners because of the vote it got. So it does get results!

Also coming soon is Faithful Foe, a longer short story at around 10 pages. It's an action packed scifi adventure featuring frienemies and a siege on a government base. In a month or two, I hope to formally introduce you to Bianca Black in her own series Blackheart. You've already met her once in Forgive Me, Father, a very short story that takes place around the tenth story I intend to publish in the Blackheart series.

I am finishing the build for the sound booth tomorrow. I have all of the material, now I just have to put it all together. It is my own design and I shall post photos once it is done. Once that is built I hope to record a few of the blog stories, and eventually release the Sword and Scepter Saga; a high fantasy audio drama.

In the meantime, I will be working on the final three installments of The Princess' Path. A few other blog stories, and perhaps another installment of Cause and Effect and Predestined. As I've said, vote in the blog if you want me to continue another story! You can cast up to two votes!

Diversity

7/6/2015

Given the recent news content regarding the leaked email stating that Spider-Man should always be white (and heterosexual) I just wanted to address something regarding my stories.

I tend to assume more diversity in cartoons and stories than there is. If there is a character with dark hair and eyes (and only one or two other people in the show who are from an ethnic minority) I will assume that they are Latinos or Asian Americans. It has led to a lot of confusion on my part when casting came out for live action movies or shows and the cast is totally white washed.

I want to avoid that in my own stories. I want diversity in my characters. But it isn't enough to just use "African American" or "Latin American" or any variation in the description. I personally have a fear of my ability of portray different ethnicities. There is more to the cultural experience than the appearance and I'm afraid that I will not do it justice or that the effort I take will fall into (or reinforce) stereotypes.*

In my current series of extremely short stories I have used very little description of the characters. I want people to choose for themselves who the characters are. I don't have specifics in mind, partially because I want people to naturally assume diversity. But in light of this recent event I wanted to tell you the ethnicity I personally imagine for one story. For the short story Cursed from the second I wrote it I imagined Xander Shade as an African American man and his niece Kimmie as bi-racial. Her mother is Xander's sister (African American) and her father is a Pacific Islander.

*One of my comic book heroes, Dwayne McDuffie, creator of Static Shock, Icon, and Milestone Comics, did a lot to spread awareness of this in the comic book industry, and if you have a moment, I highly recommend you look him up.

Upgrade, the Contest, and my first Audio

Today was a big day. Today I learned that I won the Star Trek Excelsior Contest. (I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about that.) And today I have officially upgraded my site. One of my main reasons for the upgrade was the ability to host audio. I have big plans for audio shows. But for now, enjoy my first foray into the medium with... A Stranger in the House.
