(Last) Day of May

Well everyone, here we are. The last day of May. There were two big changes this month. My blog stories and my art. I know that I've been flaky about my updates in the past. But I do believe that I have figured it out, as evidenced by these recent updates.

The turning point was when it was pointed out to me that I posted more creative things on my facebook page more often. I realized that I had to stop making things perfect and just go for it. That is how the teeny tiny blog stories began.

My "Blog Stories" are not easy for me to write. But I have been working on the system. 1) I start with a limited piece of paper, be it a sheet, the back of a menu, or the back of a receipt. 2) I think of a hook, one twist and an ending. The ending usually ends up being the twist, so often I just start with the hook and an ending. 3) I only allow myself one edit.* This edit is when I type up the story. 4) I post it.

*From an early age I learned that things could always be better. While true, I feel this has held me back from posting, because I never feel something is finished

Cause and Effect

Kevin did not like time travel. Time travel made his head hurt. So when Jessica appeared out of nowhere after a fight and stopped the one henchman he missed from plunging a knife into his back, Kevin didn't thank her. Instead he just groaned. Because Jessica was from the future. And Kevin knew he was in for a headache. Kevin snapped at Mark for being so happy to see her, even though he knew he was the only one upset. Sam and Daisy liked Jessica even more than Mark did. It wasn't that Kevin disliked Jessica. She was a fighter and had helped them save the city more than once. The problem was that Jessica made everything complicated. Kevin was a punch first, let Sam or Daisy ask questions later kind of guy.

Jessica insisted that some woman across town needed protection. Sam told Kevin to go while Jessica explained what was going on. Kevin was more than happy to leave before Jessica and Daisy started talking about conundrums and paradoxes.

But there didn't seem to be any reason for him to be there. Kevin grew more and more irritated as he followed the woman, waiting for something to happen. Then she was attacked! But Kevin easily stopped the man. The assailant was nothing more than a common mugger! The woman turned out to be more formidable. She insisted on treating Kevin to lunch.

Though Kevin found her charming, he was boiling mad by the time Sam called him back. This woman wasn't in danger! Why was Jessica sending them on a wild goose chase?! Kevin yelled all this at Jessica while Daisy tried to calm him down. Jessica just stood there smiling. When Kevin finally asked what was so funny, Jessica laughed.

"I'm just doing what you told me to, Dad." Then she winked, whispered "Call her." And vanished... Leaving Kevin with a pounding headache.

Art Updates and The Snow Demon's Daughter

I hope that you all like the art. I've been adding several of my artist trading cards to the site as illustrations. Most of them are on the landing pages for each tab. I even made an entirely new one for the Crestwood Chronicles. I like it. I think it would have been better if I could have made the aura orange and red, but I couldn't blend them well enough with my pens, and I thought it might look cheap.

I added a story called the Snow Demon's Daughter which is about a Yuki-Onna who is half demon and half human.
It would be fun to create an artist trading card for. I wrote this story a good five years ago for a class, so I don't think it's my best work. I just wanted to update more often, and I am busy with my Excelsior script.

I'm hiding the Author's Comments about the Snow Demon's Daughter, so when you click "Read More" make sure you've already read the Snow Demon's Daughter or be ready for spoilers.

Update: Added picture for the Snow Demon's Daughter. (May 27, 2015)

Prince Charming's Daughter

The King, who was once Prince Charming, never thought he would have a daughter. In fact, the possibility had never even occurred to him. Not once. But now it had happened and he was terrified. The realization that he had a daughter was more paralyzing than fighting a dragon or matching wits with a witch. It wasn't a safe world for a princess. He knew that better than anyone. How many royal maidens had he rescued from curses or dragons? Villains didn't seem to be worth their salt unless they had done something to a princess, and there just weren't that many princesses in the world!

But worse than that were the men. The King felt a hollow pit in his stomach as he considered the potential rescuers for his precious baby girl. The King knew better than anyone the type of person that might be attracted to a rescue attempt. He himself had been a lowly fifth son of a king who ruled a small and bankrupt nation before he began his crusade as 'Prince Charming' and rescued the wealthy, powerful princess who was now his Queen. The King knew of even worse options. A man who had nearly been his brother-in-law had stumbled into the title of prince by saving a princess. She died after marrying him, but the low bred brute had retained the title to impress the next princess he rescued.

No. The King decided. None of that. Not for his little girl. But how? The King couldn't always protect her from evil? Anything he tried, whether it be enlisting the aid of a good fairy or seeking to vanquish all evil from the land, would only draw farther attention to his little girl. What could he do?

As the King took his precious princess into his arms for the first time, and looked into her deep brown eyes, he realized there was only one way to ensure she was always safe. He had to train her to protect herself.
